Spring Break in Stockton

We just got back last night from a week at my grandparent's house in Stockton, California. It was a full week that went by too quickly. Henley and Hazel both soaked up the attention from various cousins, aunts and uncles, and of course Great Grammy and Great Grandpa. Mom and I joined the kids on this week spent with family. The weather was beautiful, not too warm but sunny and mild, perfect for afternoons out on the patio. We had a sad goodbye yesterday after loading up the car. It sure is never fun to leave behind those we love. Great Grammy and Great Grandpa saw us off at 10 am. We miss them so much already. Hazel keeps asking to go back to Great Grammy's house. Sure she and Henley were DELIGHTED to see their daddy last night, but it was a bitter sweet day. We don't know when we will be back at the Stockton house, and likely it will never be quite the same again as time goes by too fast and things we wish would stay the same have a way of changing. I am so thankful to have the memories of the past week, and a memory card FULL of precious pictures.

Grab a snack, a cozy seat, and sit back to see our week in pictures...

A quiet morning with family. (Note Jill's new "friend" Tim - we all really like him!)

Henley took many snoozes on Great Grammy and Great Grandpa's cozy couch.

His snooze wasn't even disturbed when Kirby sought to take back his favorite perch.

I adore this moment. Hazel kicking up her feet and relaxing with Great Grammy.

Headed off to the park. We sure love our cousin Kelsey. Such a sweet girl seen here on just her second day to be fifteen. Looks great on her!

Jill helped by hauling Henley while Tim was led along by Kirby.

Hazel was thrilled to reach the park and the green grass perfect for running.

Delight in a slide!

Kelsey and Hazel enjoy a break in the fun.

Later, Henley enjoys some time with his Nana.

Love that face!

Great Grandpa was impressed time and again by Henley's Bumbo seat. If it would have fit him, I am sure we would have a photo of Great Grandpa this green chair. Now that would have been a picture!

Henley loves his Nana.

Henley was in such great spirits the whole week as he met many new relatives for the first time. Our mellow little guy is never short of smiles for his adoring fans.

Henley stretches out his legs with Nana's help.

I love this picture of Henley perched on his Nana. If only I could know what he was thinking.

A smile shared.

I love this little guy.

The cheeks that just beg to be kissed.

Hazel gets a smooch from her special Aunt Jill. We all miss our Aunt Jill!!

Thanks for the new lips!

Great Grammy got Hazel some new sparkly sandals. Oh joy!

Think she likes her new sandals?

Another favorite of Hazel's? Walking Great Grammy and Great Grandpa's dog, Rocky. He is just her size and speed. Hazel never gets to "walk" Bella as our precious pooch outweighs her by 40 lbs and doesn't quite "walk" even when leashed. It was a privilege for Hazel to pretend to have her own doggie and take him for a walk. Rocky was a great sport and enjoyed it nearly as much as his "master" Hazel.

Happy guy on a walk with Hazel.

This way Rocky.

They ran at times.

Headed back down the drive again.

Here they are in conversation. Now, if only I knew what was being said.

My little monkey.

Hazel humored me by posing on this tree in the neighbor's yard. She pretended she was riding a horsey.

A quiet evening meal. Henley was tired of being on the outskirts, so he took over my seat while I snapped a few pictures.

He locked in on the wine glass. Sorry bud, none for you.

Another favorite moment. Hazel enjoys her sandwich alongside her Great Grandpa. They share a fondness for FOOD!

Henley getting some love from his Great Grammy.

Henley loved spending time with Great Grammy, as did Hazel. It was so special to see them have that time to spend together. I was left wishing we didn't live so far away...

With all the fun that is Great Grammy and Great Grandpa's house comes the need for baths. Here is Hazel getting a good washing in the laundry sink.

I can't suds Hazel's hair without her requesting a "silly pony tail." How could I deprive her?

My sweet little girl and her favorite funny face.

You know you have scored when your generous cousin works at an arcade and lets you play to your hearts content - FREE of charge. (Beau was quite jealous Hazel had this experience without him.) Thanks cousin Bobby!

Speed racer Hazel!

Henley couldn't be out-done by his big sister. Note the one handed driving technique. Such a pro.

Cousin Bobby helped Hazel at the squirt gun game. She really focused on this one!

Almost done!

The little man on his first carousel.

Later, we all rode the much larger carousel out in the mall. Bobby saved the prettiest horsey for Hazel. She loved it.

Shy cousin Bobby in a quick pic.

Oh happy day.

Post nap, a quick sibling cuddle.
Wednesday night, my mom's brother Bob hosted the family at his house for a barbeque gathering. Hazel and her 3 year old cousin Ava hadn't seen each other in far too long. They were quick buddies and great play mates the rest of the evening.

The cousins shared a fondness for chips...and LOTS of them.

Bobby and Sarah had their first son, Aiden, just weeks before Henley was born. Here are the two guys moments after they first met. What fun that they are so close in age. It will be great to see them grow up together.

Hazel wishing Henley was a twin. :)

Friday, we met up with cousins for a trip to the Stockton Zoo. Hazel was happy to spend more time with Ava.

The two monkeys.

This monkey was our favorite, he put on quite a show as he swung from tree branch to tree branch all over his enclosure.

There weren't any real giraffes, but this one was enjoyed by the two girls.

Hazel and Ava both share a love for running.

Here is some of the group looking at the turtles. On second glance...

...they are actually real. (I had thought they were fake as they looked just like the ones you buy in garden stores.)

Silly cousins.

More time for running.

They took a break by sitting (briefly) on the grass.

Henley enjoyed a squeeze from his Great Uncle Bob.

Henley agrees his Uncle Bob is great!

Even though Ava's daddy, John, is a Bronco fan, Henley still found him interesting.

Next to the zoo was a small carnival, perfect in size for two little girls to enjoy.

This carousel wasn't quite as fancy as cousin Bobby's, but Hazel enjoyed sharing a spin with Ava.

I am quite certain that Hazel wouldn't have ridden most of the rides had Ava not been wiht her. Having Ava at her side gave Hazel confidence I hadn't seen before. Such a big girl she is becoming.

Jill joined the girls for a trip around the carnival on the train. Choo Choo!

Ava ready to go for another ride.

Again, Jill joined the girls. Hazel was quite happy to have Ava's mommy along to keep them safe.
On the drive home yesterday, we took a pit stop in Redding. Our destination - The Sundial Bridge. Mom and I stopped here two years ago with Hazel. She was much the same size as Henley.

One last picture and then we got back on the road (after lunch) and headed the rest of the way home. We were all relieved to stretch our weary legs and see Beau. Hazel couldn't take her hands off her daddy. She couldn't get enough hugs, wrestle time and cuddles. Henley couldn't take his eyes off Beau. He had big smiles for his daddy that he missed. A great and memorable trip, but it sure is nice to be home.
